Lungworm has been spreading across the U.K. for many years now and we have seen two cases here at Churchcroft Vets. Fortunately both these cases were quickly diagnosed and successfully treated.
However, some dogs can develop overwhelming disease very rapidly and die before they can be treated. Unlike other worms, the most common dog wormers are NOT effective in preventing lungworm but there are some flea controls and wormers which are effective when used frequently. It is advisable for all dogs to have some protection.
Lungworm disease in dogs can present in a whole variety of ways. Sometimes dogs cough or sometimes they bleed because the lungworm causes clotting failure. Treating is complicated and prevention is definitely the way forward.
Special Offer free parasite consultations to all dog owners and during July and August also have 10% off all lungworm treatments.
Call Churchcroft on 0115 922 4855 and make sure your dog is protected.
If you are a member of our Pet Care Plan (PCP) then we have this covered.
